Question addressed: are people becoming too addictive of social media and can the addiction be potentially harmful?
Citation- Greenblatt, Alan. "Impact of the Internet on Thinking." CQ Researcher 24 Sept. 2010: 773-96. Web. 6 Oct. 2015.
This source talks about the mental effects that social media can have on a person and how it is harmful or helpful. The main topic of the source is whether or not social media is changing the way we think. The source talks about how social media can shorten the length of a persons attention span. People are now not being able to concentrate on just one thing. Social media allows a person to multitask and it becomes difficult for a person to concentrate on just one topic after being used to multitasking with social media. With the rise of social media, communication has become more quick and efficient. Because everything is so fast now, people cant seem to slow dawn and focus when it is needed.
The source changed my thinking by providing new information that helped me build on my topic question itself. After reading this source, I decided to change my topic question a bit. Agree with the source, when it states how some people believe that social media effects the attention span. I have witnessed firsthand how social media can affect a persons ability to pay attention and focus on a single subject. I believe this article hit on many points of how social media can affect a person mentally. It focused mainly on a person's ability to focus. I believe that social media can affect a person's state of mind in other ways also.
This source responds to the previous one because it further enhances what the other source attempts to say. It feels out some of the confusion or missing holes in the previous source. This source can be related to the other source in that the change in communication and how social media affects the brain can be seen as correlated ideas. The change in communication can be due to how social media affects the brain.
New questions:
What other ways is social media an addiction?
How can the addiction be stopped?
Will social media ever die out?
Is social media really changing how the behaviors of people?
