A) If renewable energies were not so heavily avoided in the United States how would our economy and reliability of foreign energy sources be affected?
B) Naeimi, Elham, Mohammad Hossein Askariazad, and Kaveh Khalili-Damghani. "Forecasting The Effect Of Renewable Energy Consumption On Economic Welfare: Using Artificial Neural Networks." International Journal Of Management, Accounting & Economics 2.1 (2015): 10-25. Business Source Premier. Web. 5 Oct. 2015.
Summarize:
For my second source I used a journal written by Elham Naeimi. In this journal he analyzes not only the impact that renewable energy consumption has on economic welfare indicators but also vice versa. Naeimi goes on to demonstrate his statistics formulas with data of renewable energy consumption in Iran and an artificial neural network. With this data he states that Iranian energy policy makers need to pay attention to the “ amount and share of renewable energy consumption as they are important factors which have significant effect on economic welfare at national and individual levels”. Since the potential damage of greenhouse gases from fossil fuels intimidates the majority, renewable energy uses itself as a eco-friendly alternative to promote itself and grow the market for renewable energies.
Think:
A way this source has made me think differently is if renewable energies have such a positive effect on the environment and economy while also promoting itself of these two advantages why haven't we adopted renewable energy quicker? It seems that even though the projected household incomes can potentially double over the next couple of years if countries start funding programs for these energy sources. This journal cannot give me a direct answer to my thesis question. However I think it has given me a good image of how quickly the growth of renewable energies can happen.
Synthesize:
This journal gives contrast to my last source as it gives a point of view from the government and shows how profitable the fossil-fuels industry still is. In my previous source Shum argues that since there are so many innovative ways to still consume fossil-fuel that are far more profitable on the short-term renewable energy is being pushed aside. Naeimi’s research is able to help back that up by reinforcing that there is no reason to continue to push fossil-fuel policies when renewable energy policies would yield similar, and more environmentally friendly, profits.
Question and Plan:
While there is very little resistance to the promotion of renewable energies, there are factors holding it back. To better understand how renewable energy can grow quicker I have several questions. Are there any countries that have a successful and sizeable renewable energies system? If so, how do the government and people see both fossil-fuels and renewable energy. Furthermore, how could these thoughts and other potential information be used to influence growth in the United States?
